Executive Chef and Owner

Chef Mawa McQueen is the executive chef and owner of multiple acclaimed restaurants in Aspen and Snowmass Village, CO, including Mawa’s Kitchen, Mawita, and The Crepe Shack. Born on the Ivory Coast and raised in Europe, her diverse background fuels her passion for bringing people together through food. A celebrated chef and entrepreneur, she has received the Colorado Governor’s Minority Business Award (2020, 2022) and was a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef West in 2022.

Her restaurant, Mawa’s Kitchen, earned MICHELIN Guide recommendations in 2023 and 2024. Beyond her restaurants, Mawa launched her granola brand, GrainFreeNola, and published two books—Mawa’s Way, a cookbook and memoir, and Unstoppable Ambition, a motivational book in French and English. She actively gives back as a board member for multiple organizations, including the Colorado Restaurant Foundation and the Sylvia Center Culinary Council. She advocates for African communities, raising funds for clean water access in Zambia and supporting education in Uganda.
